Footnote offers a range of editorial services to suit your literary aspirations, including full or partial manuscript critiques, query packet reviews, help with MFA application materials, and line editing.

Footnote's expertise currently lies in the adult fiction market, but we welcome projects in other genres and for other audiences. We can assess our compatibility and discuss your goals during the free, 30-minute consultation that precedes all assessment services and packages.

Manuscript Critique
Send Footnote your complete or partial story, and we'll provide specific, high-level guidance on what’s working and what needs to be improved. This service includes manuscript margin notes, a 3-page editorial letter, and a Zoom follow-up to discuss next steps. It does not include detailed line editing.
Footnote requires a 20-page sample from your manuscript before providing an accurate quote. $65/hour with a minimum commitment of 15 hours. Full-length manuscripts, considered 85,000 words, are generally priced at $65/hour x 24 hours.

Query Packet Review
If you're ready to send your work to a literary agent, consider booking this package. You will receive detailed margin comments on your query letter and first chapter addressing language, sentence structure, and adherence to conventions. $240

MFA Application Review
Thinking about applying for an MFA program? This package offers a comprehensive review of your application materials, including the Letter of Application ('cover letter'), CV, and writing samples. You will receive detailed margin comments, end notes, and a follow-up Zoom consultation. $240

Line Editing
Writers with a polished draft should consider booking Footnote for a close read. You will receive margin comments highlighting language that doesn’t work, run-on sentences, and inconsistencies. We’ll suggest cuts to unnecessary scenes or dialogue and provide recommendations for improving weak passages.
